Greetings--

I'm a new user here, and look forward to reading with interest. I've started the search for a fast cruiser that I can single-hand long distance ocean cruising. My search quickly turned to the Cal40, and now I'm looking to get as much information about this model as I can. (In depth info has been relatively hard to find, as of yet!). Are there any boats for sale out there? I'm finding very few available, and fewer yet on the west coast. Any tips/hints/insight would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

at any time becuase it's now (again) such a popular boat. Have you tried Latitiude 38?

Hi, Stu. Thanks for your reply. Yes, I've looked in the last 3 months of Lat38's classy classifieds. No Cal40s. They are apparently popular for good reasons!

Just took a look there are 2 for sale on that site.

Good luck.

Hi, Patrick. Thanks for the tip. Both of those boats are (unfortunately for me) on the east coast, but they bring up a good discussion: One has wheel steering, and the other has a tiller. I was under the impression that the Cal40 was only offered with tiller steering, so the wheel helm must be a recent mod. It does look out of place, which may confirm my suspicion. Is it true that Cal40s where only made with tiller helm? My personal preference is for a tiller helm, but I'd be interested to learn others' opinions too, in light of open-ocean single handed cruising.

Hall of fame boat, only see one on Yachtworld, but seems like a deal at 46K.
Here's a link of interest I'm sure you've seen:

If you want some "in depth" information on a Cal 40 go to Sailing and Such (http://www.sailingandsuch.com) and check out the links to the Cal websites on the sailboat projects page. Might be useful.
