I have a 1978 irwin 37 center cockpit ketch with a shoal keel. I just purchased the boat and found out it has a centerboard in the keel. How does it work on this boat? Their is no visable means to make it work. Any advise or knowledge someone can share?

Thanks,
Jim

I had a 42 Irwin and the winch was located forward of the salon on the port side on the head bulkhead. I now have a 38 with out centerboard, I would not worry about it as you may never need the CB.

I have since located a rope that comes from the keel and goes up through the area where the wiring is located for the mast, Comes out through the cabin top and leads to a winch in the cockpit.

In the forward head is a removable panel which hides a pulley that raises the CB. We replaced the line that goes through the cabin top to the winch earlier this year.

I have just bought an Irwin 23' with a drop down centerboard and the previous owner told me that it had been removed before he bought it. Is this part necessary? and if so where do I get one? Or how can I make one?
