Free to a good (home) boat: Aged, but working perfectly, "President 5oo" (Uniden) analog dial VHF radio. Currently on duty in my workshop where is broadcasts NOAA WX Radio reports. But it would rather be back in its natural environment: a needy boat. This radio will not win any beauty contests, nor does it have any of the advanced features of more modern radios. But it works. Free to anyone who promises to use it and willing to pick it up in the Wash, DC metro area, or will send me postage to ship it to them.

PS: I've gotten a few notes asking it this is a portable. It is not. It's an installed model, 5-25 watts, 12vdc.

NOTE: AS OF 3/20/09, SYNCHRONICITY HAS FIRST CLAIM ON THIS RADIO.

I'll take it if it is a handheld and hopefully includes a charger. I am joining the USCG Auxiliary and they require a radio. I do inland sailing so a radio is not much use to me...but your's will be perfect. Please let me know postage to Paradise, CA 95969.

I would love to have it for inland lake use on my Mac 21.
I will be happy to pay for USPS shipping.
Can you recommend an antenna?
Thanks.

Please send me a private note with your email and mailing addresses. I'll let you know what the shipping charges will be. Just about any VHF antenna shouldl work. I currently have the radio connected to a standard C B antenna and it brings in NOAA WX radio perfectly. Not sure about transmissions with that antenna, however.

I'd recommend getting a metz 3 dB gain 3' antenna (http://www.shipstore.com/SS/HTML/MET/MET206.html). Lifetime guarantee, about $50.
