I have a Lancer 36 1980. The mast step area on the cabin roof is sunken down about 1/2 inch around the mast base. Has anyone run into this before, and what is invoved in its repair. Thanks, Steve.

Is it spongy or just recessed? Can you post a good pic(s)?
I believe I have the same problem. Your rig may be too tight and/or the core under the mast is mush or a wooden block under the mast support post is mush (my problem). Tap around the base of the mast with a plastic hammer or the plastic handle of a screwdriver. If the sound is sharp, the deck may be okay. If dull, get a surveyor to moisture meter it. Negotiate an hourly charge or just buy a meter yourself (~$300). Check the sole where the support post is (if the mast goes down to the sole, same thing...check under it). In my case I can see where the post has pressed down into the sole about 1/4 inch. There is a wood block underneath covered with fiberglass, according to other owners. It has likely failed.
