i just bought an older islander 21 bahama and the keel has been lost with only 2 rusty bolts sticking down. does anyone know of a sailboat salvage yard or individual that may have one. otherwise what are the specs in order to make one and what are the originals made from? we have a couple of fuzzy pictures of the bottom but not much else. does this or another site have islander specs? thanks
Salvage yards are few and far between for boats. Someone probably sold the keel for scrap iron. There are companies that can make you a keel, but I think you will find that the price will be exhorbinant, versus the worth of a 1965 sailbaot...plus you need to ship it and attach it.
www.marskeel.com (http://www.marskeel.com) specializes in this, but are in Ontario.
