I have a 1977 Modified Ericson 29 that went around the world without me and now lies in Alaska under going a refit. The leading edge of my spade rudder, 8-12 inches from the top has expanded in a freeze/thaw cycle exposing a rusted metal flat bar beneath the gelcoat. the rust extends a 1/8 in. into and along the foam core of the rudder.
how can I test the rudder to see if its sound; how is the rudder is built, and what are my repair options.
