i have the unversal 25 deisel and even with long runs it seldoms registers on the temp gauge. is it a problem? probably the first problem with an engine that is not heating up.

I would first confirm that the temperature gauge is working. You can make a quick check by feeling the heat exchanger tank, after you have been running for a while. You should not want to keep your hand on it for long because of the heat If the gauge is working, the next thing is the thermostat. The odds are good that you will find it stuck wide open. If so, it's time for a new one.
