Cannot get water to the shower head in the head. The shower head is on, but water just goes to the sink. What is the trick?

Is the shower in fact connected to the plumbing? Or is it one that you screw onto the stink faucet...? And what exactly do you mean by "the shower head is on?"

here's the secret! Pull up on the shower hose where it is connected to the faucet (the end farthest from the shower head. This diverts the water from the sink faucet to the shower hose. Also, there is an on/off mechanism on the shower head that twists. With the shower head in the open position and the diverter to the shower position you should enjoy a nice hot shower.
