I am looking at re-powering my 1986 C-36. It currently has a Universal M-25. Has anyone re-powered a C-36 and if so what did you use? I have read many articals on the new C-36 MkII's with there 30hp engines and they all say it is under powered. Who makes a 30+ hp engine that will fit in the C-36? Thanks Bob brobeson@quixnet.net

Unless you are particularly attached to your specific 36, it might be more economical to just trade up for a newer model with a larger engine. It can be a very expensive job to repower. Maybe you could try a different prop? I'm not sure what articles you have read about the Mk II being underpowered. I don't recall seeing this opinion before. My Mk II with an Autoprop easily goes to hull speed with reserve RPM's and has power to punch through head seas. Don't know what I would do with a larger engine except burn more fuel.

I recently took delivery of a new 36 and I have been quite pleased with sailing performance and the engine. After just changing the oil at the 50 hour interval I can say that hull speed is easily reached at 3/4 RPM's with a lot to spare. It is quiet and burns fuel very efficiently. It is hard to imagine a better matched engine to the boat.

We have just bought a 1993 model with a 38HP Yanmar and a fixed 3 blade prop ......works REAL well !!
