I am not sure what you are speaking of but will assume the metal parts sticking out at the gooseneck which look like a rams head. if this is what you are speaking of, then it is a part of the reefing. If you want to know more, then email me at davecondon@mindspring.com

Tom, when I bought my boat, I had not seen that type of reefing and subsequently, the rams horn was hanging down when the boom was attached, so I was unable to reef the main with it in that position. The top of the horns need to be pointed upwards such that when you try and hook the ring on the main into the horn, it is a simple dropping of the main down to the level to hook it on. Rather than trying to wrap the main below the boom in order to hook the ring.Clear as mud?If this sounds kinda like the problem/questions your are having, email me at bgrant@cng.dl.nec.com and I will be happy to discuss further.Regards.Bruce.Neon Moon
