We are planning a trip to Isle Royale in Lake Superior in mid August in our H26. We plan to leave from Grand Portage and would appreciate any info regarding marinas and launch facilities in that area. Also would like tips on what to see at the Island. Thanks Jack Bristow

Jack, I made the trip to Isle Royale when I first got my H26. It's a great trip and your take off point of Grand Portage is a good idea. I suggest to put your boat in at the ramp at the Indian casino marina. Easy to do, good place to park the car and trailer, lose a few dollars at the casino, and eat a cheap buffet!! Sail to Washington Harbor - only about 22 miles from the marina - and then sail around the south side of the island where there are a lot of great anchorages - very few sailboats and a few moose. Strongly suggest you buy the crusing guide called "The Superior Way" by Bonnie Dahl. There is a good section on Isle Royale and tells you all the good anchorages and a lot about the island. Good hiking trails for a break from the water. Feel free to e-mail me if you have more questions or can't find the book. E-mail address is FraboniMN@aol.com
