View Full Version : Headstay tensioning
I have a furlex furling for my Hunter 310 jib which I would like to tension. I have looked above and below the furlex and cannot find a turnbuckle for this purpose. Does anyone know how to tighten the headstay short of taking it down and shortening the cable? Thanks. Lee

Try honking down the backstay to tighten the forestay. That worked well on my old O'Day 272 and works good on my Catalina 320

I was looking for this very same adjustment this weekend. On the Furlex that came with my boat there is the option to put in the adjuster that came with the unit.Unfortunatly, this was not installed on my boat, so I will have to cut the forestay and add it at a later date.Since there is no backstay on the Hunter, have you adjusted your shrouds? The uppers should pull the mast back and tension the forestay, watch out for too much mast bend.Regards.BruceNeon Moon

My quess is that you have the same size on your hunter 31. there is a fitting that can be purchased from furlex that is screwed on to the bottom of drum assy. you will probablly have to cut the headstay to add this fitting. this isn't a problem though since they use reusable sta-lock fittings. Its a good addition since it allowes you to tension and set the mast exactly as you wish.Good luck. Capn J
