I would like any information in regards to Radar units. Should I be looking at LCD or the standard units. I would also like to know Where owners of two cabin models have mounted the radar and antenna.

The CRT units are better than the LCD but the advantage of being able to mount the LCD in the cockpit is considerable. I mounted mine under the spray hood because I usually use the autopilot and I am rarely at the helm. I put the scanner on a pole on the stern. If you drop the mast , this means you have something less to worry about.I have the small JRC 1000 radar. I am disappointed in it. It sometimes fails to pick up ships even when I can see them with the naked eye. I have friends with the Raytheon Pathfinder which performs better.Hope this helps.

Greg, I have a Questus back stay mount and love it. The mast mount is a accident waiting to happenI'm using the Funro 841 48 mile range unit with a LCD. I find that the rangis really 20nm, beyond which sea clutteris a problem but I still receive land echos fairly wellThe only problem is that at night the unit is too bright and overwhelms the eyes. I an putting a red plastic cover to reduce this and keep night visionDan Smith, REUNION hull 533

My radarantenna is mounted at the (foreside) mast just obove the spreaders,I do know that it is from a stability point of view not ideal but it gives a larger range (horizon) than a stern position (lower thus reducing the theoretical range).Works well and I have a Raytheon LCD display mouted outside on the steering pedestal.
