If I was to buy one... The first thing I would do is get rid of that rotating mast step. I like my masts to stay on the boat. I feel bad for all of the Macgregor only dealers out there. They are going to have an interesting year.

On 2/1/03 my wife & I went to the Sail Only boat show in Chicago on Navy Pier specifically to see the new 26M. Our MacGregor dealer was there from southwest Michigan and to our surprise and disappointment he didn't have a 26M on display. The story he gave us is that they have been told that the M has technical problems and may not even be introduced this season. He would not be specific re the nature of the problem(s), however, he has very recently brought in another brand of water ballasted sail boat to make a living. (He was MacGregor only) Because this is a large regional boat show, I'm inclined to believe that the dealer and MacGregor would both very much want to show (and sell) the new 26M at this show. If that is true, then the lack of the boat's appearance adds credence to the design flaw rumors re adding hard ballast.

they have one at the Vancouver show
that he ordered 6 26x's recently only to be told they were out of them and that he could only get M's from here on in.
Talked to a dealer in Atlanta last week via email. He's sold one or two, has one on display and not expecting anymore until April. I think the fact that the Macgregor website does not even address the 26M but still shows the 26X says a lot. IMO the folks at Macgregor are stepping on "it" big time.
End of an era...My inside source at MacGregor says the last 26X hull was pulled from its mold last night! It will roll out the factory door sometime next week.Call me a "conservative" but I hate to see change just for the sake of change.Happy (fusion powered) sails *_/),MArk

The dealer in Houston, Texas had a couple of new 26X's recently. I thought I saw at least on there last week as I drove by to get to my REAL sail boat, 26SSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS.
