As usual an excellent responce!!
What size nylon do you use for your yachts mooring lines including springers? We have to fit lines on a 44' 19 ton yacht.I'm thinking 30mm??Four springers @ 45'Two bow and two stern lines @ 35"Regards

Even 25 mm (i.e. ~1 inch) is unnecessarily big for a 44 footer, in my opinion. In fact, I would not even use a 1" anchor rode, unless you have a classic vessel and want to use manilla or hemp rodes...... Unnecessarily heavy rodes and lines take up an incredible amount of space and are difficult to handle unless you are Arnold Schwarzenegger. Provided you buy high quality nylon rope (high-stretch braided nylon is strongly recommended over three-strand nylon because it will not unlay under tension and is much easier on the hands) you should be able to use 5/8 to at most 3/4 for your dock lines and 3/4 to at most 7/8 inch for your anchor rode. The lengths sound allright (assuming you meant 35' instead of 35"). However, you might consider leaving two of the spring lines as a single 90' line. Long lines often come in handy and you can always cut later, if need be.Fair winds.Flying Dutchman

a 42 foot 12 ton boat and half inch is plenty strong. It too depends on your situation whether your boat is normally docked in an area with a breakwater like ours, or exposed to strong wave action. Even at a dock with strong wave action three quarter inch lines should hold as long as you use good chafing gear. It is amazing how quickly chafe will eat through the largest lines.Terry

for permanent docking lines. You should be using 5/8 IMHO. My boat 50' 23tons, I use 3/4 braided.
