I would like to upgrade the traveler system on my 1988 H28.5 since the equipment is showing its age. Am considering installing a Harken Windward Sheeting Traveler to make singlehandling a bit easier. Would be interested in any experience you might have with this piece of equipment or any other suggested modifications that might be less expensive.

I upgraded my traveler on our H'31 two summers ago and my wife thinks I'm a genius! The people at Garhauer will cut the replacement track to fit your boat and drill the holes exactly where the old ones were - so it will fit perfectly. We bought the Garhauer MT-2 Mainsheet Traveler and now it takes NO effort to control the boom in any wind. My spouse was so used to tugging with all her might that the first time she used the new system she almost flew out of the cockpit because it was so easy. Garhauer is MUCH cheaper than Harken with excellent quality. Nice family run shop, too.

I installed a Garhauer MT2 on my Hunter 30 and have crossed Lake Michigan twice with the equipment. Boat handling has improved and the unit has not jammed in heavy weather. I sent the old track to the company and they drilled the holes and matched the curve of the track. If you are going to upgrade, you might want to add a new Garhauer vang. They all work together very well.
