Well, at least the main didn't get wet! ;-) Besides - according to Dennis Conner, this boat is just "aground". I'm also looking forward to hearing what really happened. Gary

An excellent reminder that this really can happen to you. I'm thinking it had something to do with water entering the boat, but would also like to hear the details. This motivates me to replace my useless See-Water bilge pump switch immediately.

I know of another boat which sunk in Kansas several years ago which was also an Ericson. The problem was that the cockpit drains were below the waterline and had seacocks that had to be left open in order for the cockpit to drain.They froze and down it went. I know of several Ericson owners which have moved their drains to be above the waterline. By the way, when I checked with my insurer about leaving in over the winter I found out, after much research, that the boat would not be covered due to a freezing problem. I think that Boat US has a seperate rider for winter in water storage. If we don't get any rain here the boat will hard aground. Worst drought in years and the lakes and rivers are at their lowest recorded level. I would love to have the east coast snow here.

The 25' O'Day sank do to a problem with the inbord motor. I think it was the water intake that failed. The onwer is fighting with his insurance co. That boat had a fantastic interior. Tan voluer seats, microwave, nice bar, all gone. We sail on a very siltie lake. Anything white that enters the water is never white again. I do not have word on the Erickson yet.
