I recently switched to a three blade prop on a just purchased 1979 Hunter 33. The boat performs weel in forward under power, but backing into a slip is a new adventure in predicting what the boat will do next. Does anyone else have this problem? An how do I correct it?

The H33, along with other single-screw boats, will only back well to port until you get some way on. You really have to practice coordinating the rudder position and throttle, using short bursts of power in forward and reverse, to control the way the boat backs. There is a chapter in Chapman on handling the single-screw boat, that offers excellent advice on how to manuver when backing.

Ernie, I also have a '79 H33 and I need to replace the prop. What size 3-bladed prop did you put on? Tom FitzGibbon Plan B

I use a 14-12 three blade prop. I understand they're very hard to find. I just got lucky at a local nautical consigment store. It cost $100.
