I just had a new full batten main built for my 1980 Hunter 33. I have purchased what I feel is all of the necessary hardware to creat a simple lazyjack system to accomidate the new mainsail. Any design advice or previous experience in this area from other owners would be greatly appreciated.Steve aboard "Sea Buck"

If I ever get a decent lazy jack system made up for my 33 ( at least 3 miserable failures so far) I'll gladly pass along sketches or pictures. I should know by July. I really want to know how the full batten main works out on the 33.

Ken Palmer, i would appreciate receiving your information on a lazy jack rig too. My email is tgarnold1@msn.com. Thanks Sam Lust, I have a full batten loosefooted mainsail and it does very well indeed. I couldn't be happier with it except that I need a way to keep it off the deck when singlehanding.

Design your system where the lazy jacks can be pulled down to the gooseneck for storage. Yes, this means you will still need a couple of sail ties to secure the sail, but it's easier to tie the sail than to redesign and resew the sail cover to go around lazyjacks. You can use cam cleats on the mast or run them all the way to the cockpit. You can also use a continuous line system that automatically sets the jacks to the same position everytime and then secures them in the same position everytime. There are a couple of posts in the Photo Forum. The one on my rig is Lazy Jays and are self-tensioning if you like the idea.

Did you see the latest photo project? Lazyjacks for $60.?! Looks like the way to go. Now if I could only go up the mast. Thanks Rick.
