Dodger/bimini

Has anyone experience with putting a dodger and/or bimini on a Catalina 400 that has some standing room under it? I'm thinking of moving up to a Catalina 400 from my Catalina 34 and it feels like trying to go down a rabbit hole when one goes down the companionway of this larger boat. Catalina says the boom "could be raised" - - sounds like a lot of trouble, but I have had too much sun over 30 years of sailing and have to have all the sun protection I can get. Thanks!
