I have a 1975 Newport 27s with a tiller but I am thinking about changing over to wheel steering.Is job worth the effort and what type of system might fit the best.
the effort. How clever are you? I built my own system. I can tell you how. Why do you want to do this? What do you anticipate as a benefit? Others have sailed my boat and are pleased with the way she steers.

I don't own a Newport but I don't know why an owner of a small boat (relative) would want a wheel permanently taking up space in the cockpit. We have a 34 ft and have a tiller and would not think of converting. We flip the tiller up when we anchor, dock etc. and we have a huge cockpit. I would not consider converting...
