I am finally replacing my Hurricane Charlie damaged mast. In preparing for this event (it'll happen O/A May 20), I noticed that the headliner area just adjacent to the mast is very soft, ergo, quite rotted. So, I have been wondering whether I HAVE TO replace that section before a new mast is installed. The scant info I have been reading does not exactly make me eager to replace the headliner--although it'd be a lot nicer once I did so. I had also been advised that, in that I am a liveaboard, it's a messy messy job. ANY comments , suggestions , words of encouragement, pity, commiseration, etc would be appreciated S/V Second Love

I too will need to replace the headliner in my S37 sometime this summer. What materials have other people used to replace the glue on liner?

Thanks for the info Will.I had looked at the work you and your wife had done and wondered what the material was that you had used in the Saloon. Now I can see that it was just that you had painted it. However, if I understand you, I can merely remove the liner , use it as a pattern and replace it( the new material) by securing it with the battens. Hence I wonder how thin the replacement material must be. 1/8" ? What about the curvature? Can I get away with merely scraping the deteriorated foam off then? and not make such an awful as you had described? Incidentally, your boat looks really neat!! John

Hi, Me too the old girl need a new headliner i have glued it as bes as I can with a hot glue gun. Only glue that willhold it. The plywood backing has rotted away especially around the mast so it is the project this summer as well as the windows need resealing. I think I will look for a solid material any suggestions? What material did you say was available at home depot? It seems like a big messy project I have removed some of the headliner around the mast and passage way to the vbirth.
