What is a reasonable PHRF rating for a 310? I need a number for some low key beer can racing that starts very very soon.

I raced my C30 at 180 and the rating seemed fair. Unless the 310 is slower than a C30, 180 sounds like a gift. :)

168 (with a folding prop). The only C-310 that I raced had a roller-furling main and a wing keel, and was raced by a cruiser, but after only 2 miles, I couldn't read his sail number with 7 power binocs (he was so far behind).I wouldn't have expected the C-310 to be so slow, but the 12 sec / mile that the C-30 gives them (or the 24 sec / mile that the C-320 gives teh 310) is not nearly enough to make up for the terminal case of slows that inhabit the C-310s with the RF main and wing keel.I'm ready for the flames.SteveAlchemist C-30T #4764Alchemist C-320 #909

Direct apples to apples comparisons, I don't have. We've done well with our fin keel non-furling mainsail, feathering prop, and 135% jib. But the local C30's are given extra time under PHRF, and it depends on conditions whether we can do well. It's hard for us to beat a 150% on a C30 unless the wind strength is favorable. In one race I actually sailed away from a widely mixed fleet in drifting conditions to lead by about half a mile, only to be overtaken when the wind picked up. Yet most C310 skippers like their boats in higher winds. All in all we've had some competitive races with C30's, winning some and losing some, even boat for boat. That's about all I can offer.

Just to further demonstrate that you can't always judge from one event, I remember sailing right past a C320 during a Catalina regatta race a year or so after we got our C310. Do I think C310's are faster than C320's? No.

I forgot to add that our PHRF-NW non-spinnaker rating with the 135% headsail and a mainsail adjustment is 205.Our base rating (no adjustments) is 172 which I think might be a little hard to sail to.
