I have recently purchased a 1975 Newport 27 and I need to place a new or rebuilt inboard engine in it. Any ideas about the brand, horsepower, new vs.rebuilt, gas vs. diesel and prices.Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.Thanks.
old series diesel, you don't say what is in there now. is the tranny still good? what ails the current engine? do you have a good engine shop nearby? Diesel has a lot of pluses and not many minuses. Diesels are noisier than gas, but they are safer.

Thanks for your response,I have and Atomic 4 with a cracked engine block. I have been told that this needs to be replaced and cannot be fixed. The transmission is fine. How would I go about finding the right engine. Thanks
will fit other makes of engine. The guys in any marina shop can tell you. Then find a good used engine in the 10 to 15 hp range. Gas or diesel is a choice not a problem. You might find a used Atomic four they are around. It might need some work but my new engine and transmission cost about 5000 and I did my own installation.
