I just got a good deal on a Yamaha 9.9 4 stroke stroke outbord. When I replaced the 2 stroke Evenrude I found it almost impossible to raise or tilt. In addition I felt it was necessary to stiffen up the transom with several pieces of 3/4" plywood to eliminate flexing. My questions are: Has anyone put a 4 stroke 9.9 on a 24.5? and What type of bracket do you suggest ?

Hugh, I have not put a 9.9 on my boast, but I did put a honda 8 on. Altho I dont know the brand name, Hilton Marine in Delaware, where I bought my honda engine, sells an outboard bracket that is supposed to be capable of supporting a 9.9. It is a little pricey, but looks quite substantial.. I agree that reinforcing the mounting area is a good idea, I reinforced mine with a steel mounting plate, mounted with rubber washers to reduce vibration, thru bolted to a piece of 3/4 plywood on the inside.

Jon, do you have any photos of what you've done? I am in the process of doing the same for my S25. Thanks. Curtis P.S. I use a Garelick (sp?) bracket for my Honda 8.

Curtis, Sorry, I do not have any close up photos that show the reinforcing plate.... I could take one, but am going on vacation next week and wont be back till june.... if you could still use it then, let me know and I will take one for you... basically, all I did was to get a piece of 3/8 steel plate, square, several inches larger than the mounts base, painted it and thru bolted it to a larger piece of 3/4 plywood on the inside.....
