AS a new Macgregor m26 owner. I am curious to know if anyone ever tried to cross the Atlantic ocean in a M26. After reading some of the post,s on here where people say the M26 would be like a cork in high sea,s, I remember reading the story about the 13 1/2 ft Tinkerbelle that went across. In that story the owner said Tinkerbelle was real safe as she rode the waves like a cork.If you would like to see Tinkerbelle, she is in the Crawford Auto museum in Cleveland,Ohio. Cockneyboy

have attempted long ocean passages in wholly inappropriate boats. A few have even made it. The M26 is a patently inappropriate boat for offshore sailing of any kind. The people who do make such attempts are those that wind up stretching the already stretched SAR budget of the USCG and other foreign rescue organizations.

I too had once dreamed of crossing the atlantic in my C30. While I am sure that I could outfit her with thousands of dollars and more hours then one can count. I think your best bet is to purchase a true blue water cruising boat. If you still feel that your m26 would be up to the task, try a few off shore trials, small 1000 mile trips. Start listening to the SSB channels (I recommend Herb).I just got back from a bermuda round trip, and I will tell you that even in a tartan 4100, 15 foot waves in the golf steam make for an unconfortable ride.

Thanks guys , I had no plans to sail across the Atlantic Ocean in a M26. I just put the question out there. It got a reaction. After seeing how small Tinkerbelle is I thought some nutcase might have tried with a power sailer.
