I lost the centerboard on my 1979 27' Balboa. The bolt rusted and broke off. Does anyone know of an available centerboard, or have any experience building a new one?

Did you lose a "centerboard" or a "swing keel? A swing keel would have mass and weight greater than a centerboard.

I own a Balboa 26 and it has a 1200 pound swing keel......No way you have a centerboard....Did you buy the boat as is? Does not make sense........

I've wondered about losing those boards. At two hundred pounds, it is a distinctly different animal than the swing keel for a B26. I believe they are just boilerplate, but others will know. You might try Idasailor. I bet they would fabricate a new cb with foil shape for greater upwind pointing. Check their website. Good luck, David

Yes, it's a swing keel. I goofed with the name. Too many boats with centerboards in my past.

Thanks for your reply. It was actually a swing keel that I misnamed. I'll try the website.

I had a Balboa 27 with a 1200 lb. swing keel. I had salvaged the boat several years ago and just recently took it to a local salvage yard. The boat was in such disrepair I thought it better to just buy a newer sailboat. I also got rid of it for fear of the same problem you just had. Anyhow, you might try calling the owner of the salvage yard and see if the boat is still there and entact. It may well be since it is blocked up next to many old cars and trucks. It is at Bruce's Recycling Co. (360) 674-2778, 9440 SW Barney White Road, Port Orchard, Washington 98367. Since you live in Portland, OR you are only a couple hours away. All you need is something to haul this 1200 lb. fin keel. The boat is actually blocked about 3.5 ft. off the ground, so it will be easy to get to so long as they did not smash it up. Good Luck and hope I am of some help.
