View Full Version : Engine Overheating
I am currently purchasing an 1986 Catalina 30. It comes equipped with a 21 horse diesel. The motoer starts to overheat at 2800 rpms and it has a three blade prop. I was wondering if the cooling system is plugged or if the three blade prop screws up the engine temp and torque. This diesel should be abl eto handle 2800 no problem but it does not.

I'd check both your cooling system (first) and if there's nothing wrong there, check your exhaust system. We had an overheating problem but it ended up being a rotten muffler. Good luck!LaDonna

i installed a new exhaust system about 4months ago.air got trapped in the systemduring the installation.this caused myoverheating problem.i ended up spending the better part of a day bleeding thesystem.you might try to bleed the systemthru the petcock valve atop the thermo-stat.if that doesnt solve the problemtry flushing your cooling system and ifthis still doesnt solve the problemcheck the muffler.hope this helps andgood luck
