I thinking of buying a Newport 27 with a 24hp Perkins (gas) and wheel steering. I would appreciate candid comments and suggestions of things to look for pre-purchase. The price is low and I don't think I'll have a survey done.

I love my Newport 28', though I have not had it a year yet. Mine has an 11 HP. Diesel, which I understand to be a bit more sought after. There are advantages and disadvantages to either though! :) Enjoy your boat!!!! Dan.

I own a 1970 N27 and think it a great boat but had lots of problem replacing balsa core deck (dirty job). I would strongly recommend having the deck checked for moisture before buying.

I am looking at a 1977 Newport 27. The gelcoat on the deack is cracked in several areas and seems to be delaminating. In reading the response by Mr. Graham, it would seem that this is a typical problem to the N27? Any advice I can get would be appreciated! Thanks
