Please explain the Hull Number again

A few weeks ago, someone explained that the last 3 digits of the hull number define the year made and the model year. For examle, "687" identifies a 1987 model that was made in 1986.My O'27 hull number ends in "574". My title lists it as a 1974. Does this mean it was actually made in 1975?Furthermore, I saw an O'Day on this site that ends in "674". What would be the point of making a 1974 model in 1976?Happy Sails to you, until we meet again...
