Looking for a schematic or picture of a centerboard winch. I have a 1969 Irwin 31 and the setup is long gone. Centerboard is still there and blocked in but no winch. Not even sure where it would be put. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Tom - I just bought a '74 Irwin 28 with a centerboard. I found some useful info on the irwin website with some drawings and centerboard removal info. The website is www.irwinyachts.com. Not sure what's there for the 31 but it's worth a look. Good luck - Cal

Merriman used to make a small centerboard winch which was an open wire drum with a removable handle and a releasable pawl to stop it from unwinding. It wasn't very special and was only used on small boats. Normally a #1 or #2 wire halyard winch was used as a standard centerboard winch on lots of boats in your size range but they are no longer made. but I would expect that almost any small to medium manual wire reel winch would do the trick.
